UGN Installs New Hybrid Filter Module

A brand new type of hybrid filter module has been installed for the first time by UGN-Umwelttechnik GmbH at the main pumping station in Eilenburg, Germany.
The wastewater from Eilenburg and the surrounding towns is collected in the pumping station and then pumped to the wastewater treatment plant. Due to high contents of hydrogen sulphide and mercaptans, the entire station suffered major problems with corrosion of steel and concrete elements. The high amount of pollutants caused odour and health hazards for both residents and plant staff. The adjacent sewer sections also suffered from corrosion.
To solve this problem, intense ventilation of the pumping station and sewer sections was achieved with the special UGN- Umwelttechnik GmbH system technology. The air is sucked from the relevant sections and purified through the specially adapted UGN® hybrid filter, containing the UGN® oxy granulate. The filter, chemical and biological purification processes are linked to allow a buffer and eliminate the contaminant loads that are subject to considerable fluctuation.

Hydrogen Sulphide and other pollutants are safely removed from the premises and purified in an ecologically sound way. Additional filters in the adjacent sewers guarantee optimum ventilation and thus a considerable reduction of damage due to corrosion occurring in the building. This results in the corrosion and odour problems becoming a thing of the past.

The development of the UGN® hybrid filter in combination with the UGN®BEGA system began at various German research institutions and Hepworth PME was instrumental in having different filters of this type installed in the UAE.
